The Christian Post reported in an article headlined "Family Radio Founder Harold Camping Repents, Apologizes for False Teachings" that Mr. Camping had repented of his many failed prophecies of Christ's return.
Read the article here and judge for yourself. I see no genuine repentance here.
Real repentance for such sins as these- pride, false prophecy, wrongly dividing the Word of God, accepting large donations based on his teachings and feeling no need to restore any portion back to the givers, etc., would necessarily need to be a significant public event commensurate with the kind of press exposure Mr. Camping was all to happy to avail himself of when he was in the midst of his prophesying.
To confuse an admission of being wrong, which is all I get from this article, as tantamount to true biblically defined repentance (which incidentally includes restoration to anyone the repentant party has injured) is either naive on the part of The Christian Post reporter Nicola Menzie and her editorial superiors who approved the article for publication or a sign of their being biblically ignorant with respect to this important doctrine pertaining to the Christian life, walk and relationship to our fellows in Christ as well as with Christ himself.
As far as I am concerned Harold Camping remains unrepentant of not only his failed prophesies but all the damage that occurred as a consequence- including the loss of life by some unstable souls that were deeply distraught by his teachings. Mr. Camping also needs to repent of his heretical teachings on hell not being the final place of eternal punishment for the unsaved as well as his corruption of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
When such public repentance is forthcoming from Mr. Camping as well as the Family Radio board of directors (as individuals) who also bear responsibility for their own participation in Mr. Camping's sinfulness,-- I will be the first to praise God for it and report it as far and wide as is within my power.
